Culture
Culture was always an important aspect of Baden. Mansions, palaces, the elegant houses of the upper middle class and the squares still bear the mark of renowned architects from the Biedermeier period, Historicism and Art Nouveau, such as Carl von Moreau, Josef Kornhäusel and Otto Wagner.
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Ludwig van Beethoven resided and worked in
Baden. Franz Liszt, as well as the composers of the Viennese waltzes such
as Josef Lanner, the Strauss brothers, Carl Michael Ziehrer and Karl Millšcker
lived and created their music here.
In the visitors" books of Baden one finds the names of many famous
poets and playwrights, such as Raimund, Nestroy, Eichendorff, Rosegger,
Anzengruber, Hebbel, Schnitzler and Nabl. Max Reinhardt, the genius of
the modern Austrian and German theater was born in Baden. Boris Pasternak,
the author of the novel "Doctor Shivago" was stationed here
as a cultural officer in the Soviet army.

Baden - The Capitol of Music
The Fine Arts are presented by the painters Anton Grass, the brothers Franz and Rudolf Alt, Moritz von Schwind, Ferdinand Waldmüller, Paris Gütersloh and Arnulf Rainer. The interested visitor may view their oeuvres in the many museums and collections of Baden, such as the Frauenbad, the gallery in the Beethovenhaus and the gallery Menotti.
In Baden, one will find culture throughout the year in all its different
facets. In summer, the concerts in the spa gardens and the operetta festival
in the Sommer Arena, the winter season in the Municipal Theater of Baden,
